My name is Fernanda Povoa, and this is my Lab.
My work begins in a deeply human place: through observation, intuition, hand sketches, illustrations and dreams. Before becoming an object, each piece first exists as an image in my mind, then as a line on paper, a fragment, a movement or a form that I feel the need to understand.
I am fascinated by the patterns, structures and technical solutions that shape the world around us. I observe how things grow, repeat, adapt, support themselves and occupy space, and I try to reinterpret these hidden systems through my own visual language.
From there, I translate these ideas into sets of rules, lines of code, algorithms and digital recipes. I give the computer precise instructions to follow, allowing it to transform an imagined form into a digital image or file. The image, however, is born before the code. The computer becomes a way of testing, extending and materialising the logic that already exists in my head and in my drawings.
The work then returns to my hands. Each piece is assembled, dyed, refined and finished individually in my studio. Illustration, computation, sculpture and material experimentation are all part of the same continuous process.
Povoa Lab is where these worlds meet: a space for translating dreams, observations and imagined forms into wearable sculptures and light objects that seem to belong to another possible reality.

Welcome to Povoa Lab, where art meets technology in a unique and innovative way. The Lab is not just about creating jewelry or furniture, but about experimenting with art that interacts with our senses in a synesthetic way. Our creations are inspired by an utopic universe, where beings evolve in a gooey atmosphere, facing challenges for living, breathing and moving.
The inspiration is drawn from growth patterns found in nature and each piece of art is created using parametric design tools. Through scripting, the generated forms are optimized, resulting in truly unique creations.
