Nereis profunda
2025
Nereis Profunda consists of a series of tiered sculptural organisms that evoke the mysterious beauty of deep-sea life—yet not from Earth. Their forms resemble creatures evolved in unfamiliar environments, shaped by pressures, gravities, and ecologies unlike our own. Each terrace expands and contracts like sections of an exoskeletal bloom, while the dense mesh surface mimics biological latticework found in abyssal organisms.
The topology is computationally grown: a digital logic that determines how the structure thickens, opens, curls, and folds. This results in a body that feels simultaneously marine, botanical, and extraterrestrial. Though rigid, the sculptures carry the visual softness and buoyancy of something suspended underwater, swaying in currents of an alien sea. Nereis Profunda embodies the idea of evolution beyond Earth—creatures shaped by physics we can only imagine.
