Lucerna cephalica

2023

Lucerna Cephalica is an early luminous sculpture whose form echoes the soft anatomy of cephalopods and deep-sea lantern creatures. Created before the transition to modular interlocking methods, the piece is built from carefully glued components that form a continuous, flowing body. Its radiant upper chamber diffuses light through a dense, finely patterned lattice, while the tapering tail descends in a fluid, organic spiral reminiscent of drifting tentacles. Suspended in space, the sculpture evokes a bioluminescent organism rising from the ocean’s depths—an ancestral precursor to the later gravity-assembled Luminaria species.
