Carapax interlata

Carapax interlata is a modular light sculpture composed of twelve interwoven elements that assemble into a self-supporting, shell-like structure. Inspired by deep-sea organisms, the piece evokes a protective anatomy — a living carapace that conceals and filters light from within.

Gravity acts as a formative and stabilizing force throughout the development of the sculpture. Rather than relying on rigid frames or fixed joints, the structure emerges through weight, interlacing, and mutual support between modules. Each element finds its position through gravity, allowing the whole to stabilize as a cohesive body.

Light is conceived as an internal organ, shielded by the woven shell as if protecting a sensitive eye. Situated between creature and architecture, Carapax interlata exists as a living system shaped by structure, gravity, and illumination.
