Aurea tentaculata
2025
Aurea Tentaculata is a large-scale luminaria sculpture composed of modular components that hang together through gravity and organically interlocking elements, forming a self-supporting organism-like structure. Its surface is built from a dense parametric lattice, where thousands of micro-cells create the appearance of bioluminescent scales or mineral plates. From the central body extend elongated tentacular forms, each shaped through computational growth rules that determine curvature, porosity, and flow.
Illuminated from within, the piece transforms light into a living material, revealing the intricacy of the mesh while casting fluid, atmospheric shadows. Inspired by abyssal medusae, flowering exoskeletons, and speculative aerial creatures, the form exists between biology and imagination. Beginning with hand-drawn sketches and evolving through digital reinterpretation, Aurea Tentaculata merges artisanal finishing with the precision of 3D-printed modular architecture, establishing itself as a radiant species within the Luminaria family.
